Teacher Notes

This "Bridge" has been developed to help deliver a number of Geographical concepts and techniques using ICT within the subject.

The resource consists of many photographs taken in India with facts and figures to help students develop an understanding of the country.

The photographs have been taken mainly in rural areas and small towns which do not reflect the main economic activities and recent developments which have taken place in India. The India Bridge therefore only covers a small part of India and should be supplemented with other teaching materials.

The India Bridge has activities and differentiated projects to provide students with the opportunities to study the country and create presentations. The presentations can be created using paper or preferably ICT such as wordprocessors, spreadsheets and powerpoint. The projects are identified by colour code and represent the following levels.

Green – foundation level
Blue – intermediate level
Red – higher level

The foundation level project is very highly structured with basic tables and questions to be completed by searching the website. Once the questions and tables have been completed, the foundation level students may convert the project into their own words.

The intermediate level project is less structured than the foundation project but does provide higher levels of guidance. The concepts covered in the intermediate project are of a higher level than the foundation.

The higher level project sets out the areas of study without guidance on structure. It is designed to encourage higher ability students to obtain information from the website and other sources to create a high level presentation with an understanding of more advanced geographical concepts.

In addition to the projects there are a number of activities ranging from crosswords and word reveals to structured tasks. These are to compliment the projects or provide for a more limited study when time does not permit completion of the projects.

The photographs and information are free for educational use.
