What is migration?

Migration is simply the movement of people from one place to another. It can be described in two forms:

  • National migration - moving from one place to another in the same country.
  • International migration - moving to a place in a different country.

Migration can also be broken down into the following:

  • Emigration - when a person leaves a country
  • Immigration - when a person arrives in a country

A person who leaves a country or area is known as an emigrant and someone who arrives in a country or area is an immigrant.
